If you haven’t followed us for long, you may not be aware of our connection to Palomar in Oklahoma City. We have hosted supply drives, donation drives, and volunteered at some events that benefited them. Palomar definitely tops our list for one of the best service organizations in Oklahoma City.

Though we have worked with them for a few years, we are always surprised by how many people we come across in our community who are not familiar with Palomar’s work.

So, we want to change that. Here’s why Palomar is an Oklahoma City community service organization you should know.

How Palomar Started

Palomar started in 2015. Oklahoma City Police spearheaded the effort to bring the agencies together that help victims of domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, stalking, sexual assault, and human trafficking under one roof.

35 agencies, including the Oklahoma City Police Department and the District Attorney, are represented in Palomar’s offices.

What They Do

In 2019, 1 in 6 homes in the Oklahoma City area called 9-1-1 to report domestic violence incidents. Since 2017, Palomar has helped more than 10,000 victims and helped initiate more than 4,000 arrests of offenders.

Palomar’s primary purpose is to disrupt cycles of violence in our communities. They do this by providing support and services that hold perpetrators accountable for their actions, provide support to victims and their families, and empower survivors to thrive.

Among a myriad of other services, Palomar offers education, legal aid, counseling, shelter, food, and other necessities for victims. Palomar’s services are free to the public.
